Utah Saints - wezbash
Saints was led by Jez Willis, a onetime member of the industrial group Cassandra Complex who during the late '80s had turned to DJing in local clubs. While working the club circuit he met fellow DJ Tim Garbutt dj at bliss @ the gallery leeds, whose passion for house music inspired Willis to begin creating house tracks of his own; Garbutt then played one of Willis' tapes to strong crowd response, and together they honed the song which eventually became Utah Saints' self-released debut single, 1991's "What Can You Do for Me." Of the one thousand copies originally pressed, one made it to the offices of ffrr Records, which immediately signed the duo to a contract; within three months of its wide release, "What Can You Do for Me" sold some 170,000 copies in the UK, landing in the Top Ten of the British pop charts. Following singles were "Something Good" (featuring a Kate Bush sample) "Believe In Me", and "I Want You .

Straddling the gap stylistically and historically between the cut-and-paste acid house of Bomb the Bass and the big-beat explosion, this uk dj duo fashioned recognizable samples from established classics into equally exciting contemporary dance singles. "What Can You Do for Me" mates Gwen Guthrie with the Eurythmics, while "Something Good" lifts a hook from Kate Bush's "Cloudbusting" (the first time she approved such a usage). Both those club hits appear on the Saints' sole full-length to date, rounded out by notable tracks including a shockingly traditional rendition of Simple Minds' "New Gold dream" and "trance atlantic glide"
Utah Saints - What Can You Do For Me - wezbash
Formed in Leeds, England in 1991, the dance-metal duo Utah Saints was led by Jez Willis, a onetime member of the industrial group Cassandra Complex who during the late '80s had turned to DJing in local clubs. Flame (23) - America - dieterb.2003
What a great track from the girls behind Cora and Garbo (well known from hits as Amsterdam or Perestroika).

Here they produced a song that makes goose bumps! A simple but fine trumpet line in combination with a standard end-80s-computerbeat and a plain song is the basis. Filled with a lot of samples from this time. For example beats that we heard in songs from Milli Vanilli or Neneh Cherry. And that's it. Great.
DJ Edge - *1 - Zefrem23
This (well, the track COMPNDED) is arguably the best rave track in the history of the world. It's energetic, melodic without being cheesy, has amazingly unique sounds, and has never dated. Nothing else sounds like it. Subsequent releases on Edge Records were groundbreaking, but none quite so much as this track. Absolutely essential in any dance DJ's collection, and guaranteed to go down well in just about any type of set. The first synth lick still feels like a giant LSD monster licking me up my spine....
Axel Le Baron - Primary School - iarla
For disco house lovers this is the most exciting release to come out since Crydamoure. If you ever get the chance to listen to this record you will be instantly taken back to the days when french producers like Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (Daft Punk), Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) & DJ Falcon were kings of the house scene back in the late 90's.

Even though there's only one track on this single sided records, it's golden, those sweet filters and compressors layered with booming 909 sounding drums and percussion. It's a very happy and uplifting track, so looking forward to hearing more releases from Darling!
Joey Beltram - The Scorpion EP - Chip-Kurtis
Joey Beltram has always had real talent for shaping the most hypnotic richest sounding hi-tech dance grooves from a minimal amount of instrument sources.

Fans of particularly his super "Caliber Ep" on warp, will surely love this release on Drumcode.

This 10/10 release sees him again do his sonically beautiful balancing act but in 2 slightly different ways.

"The Scorpion" has that (similar to the Places Lp) up-tempo mixture of sinister fat analogue textured sweeps versus portamento-esque rolling high bass stabs over the nice sharp kick drum & heavy hats but with added big lush white noise and reverb effects to lovingly accompany it. It excellently teases you with its cold funk into a midway change that implies Joey is finished with you but within a few bars things are on the move again which impressively carries you melodically back upwards into an even higher freak out frenzy. It’s a supremely warm yet still very dystopian dance track. The magic precision that Joey conjured up for "Energy Flash" is again in full effect here.

"Striking Distance" will perhaps be seen as less dance floor oriented out of the 2 but it easily has as much depth as “The Scorpion" in that it can cleverly own you big time if unprepared. Things nicely start of slower with a mellow toned down Tb-303 bass line over a tight percussion. What follows is an ever changing interweaving journey where dominance of the audio spectrum is very impressively fought out between huge reverse reverb and flange Fx & little rhythmic flips & rolls of the beats and a now constantly evolving pitch transposition of the 303 bass line. A really dark and moody piece is what develops & I feel this track really delivers. People who where blown away by Joeys "Code 6 Codes Ep" and the various dark aura’s fuelling the mid-tempo B sides on his R Records releases will without a doubt find kinship here.
Nifty - Nifty EP - ChrisChill
All the tracks on this ep are outstanding. The two that stick out the most for me are "Im From New York" and "Nifty".

New York is very bouncy house affair with many quirky vocal snippets and electro style stabs, where as "Nifty" is a low down dirty breaks track with an old skool hardcore vibe, its acid like riff and reversed vocal samples makes this track very unique to the formulated breakbeat sound thats being out now.

A must have for any dj, this ep will make the floor move no matter what track you play.
Norken - Soul Static Bureau - charles_howarth
A wonderful blend of styles are in evidence on this mesmerizing album. There are pieces of house, IDM and ambience all fused to create an ever so subtle soundtrack. The minimal house beats are offset beautifully by gentle sweeping synths, and laid back bass lines help keep the groove going. The mix is never cluttered - each element is given plenty of room to stand out.

This blueprint is in evidence throughout the album, but each track has a distinct mood of its own. The unifying production values help to create a hypnotic flow to the whole, which encourages start to finish listening (and I think this is the way to get the most from this album).

At ten years old, this release is still offering up new delights for me with every listen (and there have been lots and lots of those). This album is certainly a grower and is one of the best produced works I have ever heard.

Norken's Soul Static Bureau is a masterpiece of subtle deepness quite unlike any other piece of music I know.
Various - Intelligent Selecta - BenJBX
A great intro to what some folks call 'artcore' ie. the older generation of breakbeat hardcore producers going on an adventure with thier samplers and inventing ambient drum & bass in the process. And also a fine album to put on when you're pottering around at home having a cup of tea and a smoke. None of the tracks are less than good - the Foul Play and Notorious ones in particular are outstanding. Definitely worth picking up if you find one, as getting all these tracks on 12" would cost a fortune now. Just don't be put off by the cheesy cover.
DJ Kam - Indian Rain - stillage
Just picked up a copy of this 45 and it's a bit of a result as Indian Rain is a total downbeat gem, and appears to be largely unknown on Discogs.
Lush Bollywood soundtrack edit business, this will certainly appeal to fans of Harmonic 33's Extraordinary People EP or Savath & Savalas.
This track is pure heavyweight atmospherics and hairs on the back of the neck time as this seems to capture the essence of that thing it says on the tin.
